NYU's Development Research Institute will host a fascinating discussion with Ann Bernstein and Paul Romer at the Development Research Institute on Thursday, July 21st, at 3:30pm, co-sponsored by the Marron Institute of Urban Management.
Ann Bernstein is the distinguished Executive Director of South Africa’s Centre for Development and Enterprise. In South Africa, as is the case in most developing countries, there is a contest between those who would prioritize economic growth and those, whom we might call ‘redistributionist’, who want to focus on equalizing incomes. Ann will present the findings from a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A central component of the approach is to manage cities so that poor people can more readily connect with urban opportunities.
The respondent to her talk will be Paul Romer, University Professor and Director of the Marron Institute of Urban Management. We will then look forward to comments from all of you.
